Short-Run Manufacturing

Short-run work is unattractive to high-volume plants and ideal for smaller shops with fast changeover. Finding the right fit is mostly about matching your batch size to a shop whose economics reward it.

Why volume fit matters

A plant tooled for 100,000 pieces will price 250 pieces defensively. A shop built around high-mix work will quote the same job competitively and probably deliver it faster. Volume fit, more than any other single factor, determines whether you get a workable quote.

Recurring releases

If you expect to reorder, say so. Shops will often invest in fixtures or hold material when they can see repeat business, and that shows up in both price and lead time.
