Manufacturing Processes

Stamping

Stamping delivers the lowest piece price for high-volume sheet metal parts once die cost is amortized. The economics live and die on the tooling decision.

Progressive, transfer and short-run

Progressive dies excel at high volumes of small parts. Transfer presses handle larger parts. For lower volumes, soft tooling or a hybrid of laser blanking and forming often beats a hard die.

Die ownership and maintenance

Establish who owns the die, where it is stored, who maintains it and what happens if you move the program. These terms are far easier to negotiate before the die is cut.
